The current Sheriff of Nottingham is Councillor Glyn Jenkins.
Glyn was born in 1950 on the Promenade, Robin Hood St at the back of Victoria Park, Nottingham. As an infant he attended Victoria Primary School and took his secondary education at Manvers bilateral on Carlton Road.
His father, Kenneth, who had in his time been a policeman, a Sergeant Major (Royal Welsh Fusiliers) and a Flight Sergeant, thought it would be good for him to join the Sea Cadet establishment TS Orion. Glyn liked it so much that on leaving secondary education he joined the Royal Navy at 16 and has travelled in the Middle and Far East.
His mother, Evelyn, also lived in Nottingham and worked in the NAAFI where she met his father and they settled in Nottingham together.
On leaving the Royal Navy, Glyn worked as a fitter having qualified for the job within the Royal Navy. He has also worked in coalface maintenance, as a postman and a City and Guilds qualified carpenter/joiner. He became a Christian in 2001 and has worked hard in the service of others since then.
He served for 6 years as a Governor at the then Seagrave Primary school, which is now Djanogly Strelley Academy. Glyn was also secretary to the future form youth club and was a treasurer for his local action group in Strelley.
Glyn was first elected as Councillor for the Leen Valley ward in May 2011. Glyn is very honoured to be chosen as Sheriff of Nottingham for 2017/18 and is looking forward to serving the people of Nottingham as Sheriff.
